Firefighters were called to Wellington House in Porter Street at 11.49am yesterday where they discovered several small fires had broken out in the residential flats.
The crew had to use tools to force their way into the property before wearing breathing apparatus to tackle the flames with a hose reel.
Police, who were informed about the incident by the fire service, have now arrested a man in connection with the blaze. He is currently in police custody.
