John Thomson's costume discomfort

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 18:21

John Thomson has confessed he is already starting to find his panto costume uncomfortable.

The Cold Feet star is playing Captain Hook in Peter Pan at Manchester's Opera House and admitted the velvet coat and waistcoat layers, wig, feathered hat, elaborate trousers and buckled shoes were already getting to him.

Speaking at First Family Entertainment's panto season launch, John, scratching under his wig with his hook, said: "Blimey it's hot!"

Asked if he was dreading wearing the costume night after night, he said: "Yes, is the simple answer."

John revealed he's worried about his six-year-old daughter Olivia seeing the panto.

He said: "She's already seen me in the costume to get her used to it. But I'm not sure how she'll cope with everyone booing and hissing at me on stage. Luckily she's only six or she might start nutting people."

After the launch the panto stars all began scratching under wigs, loosening corsets and rubbing their feet.

Henry Winkler was happier with his Captain Hook costume, saying: "I've gotten a much bigger hook this year and I'm very proud of that. I look to have children run out of the theatre screaming when I enter the stage."

His co-star Louisa Lytton - who plays Peter Pan - said: "I will be flying. I've had the harness fitted but I haven't actually flown yet, so I'm quite nervous."

Les Dennis, who's playing Buttons in Cinderella, said: "I am Buttons dress as lamb."
